ABOUT THE ITEM
Cottonwood buds are amazing, resinous, sticky, heavenly smelling buds that are gathered in late winter from enormous black poplar trees.
I have a special love for these buds and the trees I gather them from. My lover grew up deep in Appalachia in a tiny town called Big Sandy Mush- The land he grew up on is now inhabited by a farmer and his family. The trees grow along a gentle river, and each winter, when the buds are at their peak the farmer goes and cuts a limb or 2 for us, if the wind and storms had not done us the favor already. Each year- we wait for the perfect sunny day and after a winter of coldness we take the long and windy drive to this peaceful and magic place. Our kids play on the rivers edge, in the icy waters, looking for crawdads or whatever treasures they might find, my lover strolls the fields looking for arrowheads (and often finds them), and I peacefully gather the buds that stain my hands and make them smell amazing for days. It is a true labor of love and is so enjoyed by my whole tribe.
Cottonwood buds not only smell AMAZING, but they are an analgesic, antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory. The salve made form them is good for arthritic joints, inflammation, tendinitis, carpel tunnel, muscle stiffness, injuries, and wounds. It also works well if used in conjunction with massage oils.
