ABOUT THIS ITEM
Spilanthes buttons! They're just so cute and swoon worthy
A member of the aster family.
Spilanthes is also called toothache plant, because it numbs the mouth (and also increases saliva excretion something wild!). Biting one of these little babies is like a zap of numbness of the whole mouth. It's used for toothache and sore throat. A gargle of the tea works wonders!
I also like to use spilanthes in place of echinecia root for immune boosting activity, as it grows quickly and abundantly and you don't have to dig up a 3+ year old echinecia plant.
It also has amazing analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-pyretic (reduces fever), antioxidant, anti-convulsants, and anti-microbial properties. It is a vasorelaxant (widens blood vessels and increases blood flow) and is a pancreatic lipase inhibitor (decreases the gastro absorbtion of fats- so it is being studied as an aid for obesity). In the tropics it is used in treatment against malaria and ringworm.
Another amazing fact about this cute little flower is that 1 ounce of the tincture of this plant acts as an anti venom for poisonous snake bites. I have personally seen it work for a friend of a friend who was bitten by a copperhead.
I'm just amazed and in love with Mother Nature and her gifts.
